Chloé: What do you mean “today”? My hair is always beautiful. (pause) Yeah, well, you’re looking less…annoying today, Rose.
Rose: (happily) Oh!
Scene: Locker room of Collège Françoise Dupont, present day
Rose: Isn’t it great to start the day by sharing a few kind words?
Marinette: (to Alya) Compared to those other gifts, mine is going to be super lame!
Alya: Don’t worry Marinette, there’s no pressure!
(Adrien and several of his classmates approach Marinette and Alye.)
Adrien: What about you Marinette? I’m sure you’ve come up with something amazing as usual.
Marinette: Oh, me? Uh… It’s almost no reffing at all. Ugh! I mean… It’s really nothing at all! (She giggles nervously, then opens her present. The other students gasp in amazement. She reads the inscription on her present as she points at him) “If we want to change the world, we must all learn to love each other.” This is one of the first things Miss Bustier taught us when we first met her at school. I always keep that in mind.
Students: Aww!
(Chloé slams the locker.)
Marinette: I also added this tube of lip balm – Miss Bustier’s favorite color!
Alya: Come to think of it, Miss Bustier is probably the reason we all get along so wonderfully.
Adrien: I’m so lucky to have a teacher like her for my first year at school. What about you, Chloe? what is your gift
(Chloé looks at the others and says nothing. They groan in disappointment.)
Marinette: Nothing. Just like every year since kindergarten.
(Chloé frowns. Sabrina walks in front of her.)
Sabrina: It’s not her fault, okay? Chloe just doesn’t like birthdays! She never remembers them, just like her mother.
(Chloé opens her mouth briefly in shock.)
Chloé: (to Sabrina) Yeah, well, you don’t have to tell them my life story either. (pushing Sabrina behind her) Anyway, all that stuff about compliments and love? Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!
(Marinette turns towards Alya.)
Marin(ette: quietly) That girl has no heart.
Chloé: Uh, of course I have a heart! Dad will even buy me a second one if I want.
(The class bell rings.)
Kim: (to Max) What’s our next lesson?
Max: Physical Science.
(Students chatter as they exit the locker room. Marinette puts her present in the locker with a look at Chloé. She slams the locker door, not noticing it doesn’t close. Marinette leaves, scowling and growling at Chloé. Sabrina tries to leave, but Chloé stops her .)
Sabrina: We’re going to be late for Mrs. Mendeleev’s physics class, Chloé!
(Chloé opens Marinette’s locker.)
Chloé: Permanent marker. (Sabrina hands a permanent marker to Chloé. Chloé glances at her with one eye.) Close. (Sabrina takes the cap off her marker.) I have a present for you, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. (continues to use the brand)
(A slide show of Marinette’s school activities is shown: physics class, lunch in the cafeteria, talking in the hallway, art class, and Mr. D’Argencourt’s P.E. in the courtyard.)

Rose: (places her gift in a pile) Happy birthday, Miss Bustier!
Miss Bustier: Oh! Thank you!
Students: Happy birthday Miss Bustier!
Miss Bustier: Oh, you’re all so sweet!
(Miss Bustier takes Marinette’s present to open.)
Alya: Marinette did it.
(Miss Bustier pulls out Marinette’s present and looks at it with a surprised face. Marinette’s message has been scribbled, above what used to be a message is a crude figurine of Marinette. Seeing the reaction, Marinette gasps and stands up. her seat, she picks up her present and examines it.)
Marinette: What..? (angrily) I know you did, Chloé Bourgeois!
Max: (checks phone) 99.56% sure.
Alya: So cool, Chloe.
Marinette: Seriously lame.
Miss Bustier: Calm down. We don’t want to get upset about my birthday now, do we? (takes a gift from Marinette) I think this gift is amazing. (takes lip balm out of bag) This will be my new makeup bag! Then I can think of you both every time I use it.
Marinette: What? You’re not going to let her get away with it?!
Alya: That girl is worse than Hawk Moth!
Alix: At least half the town went akumatized because of her!
(Students start talking loudly. Miss Bustier claps her hands.)
Miss Bustier: Students, please calm down! (Speech stops) The classroom is not a place for insults and slander! Marinette, would you come with me please?
Marinette: What?
(Miss Bustier opens the door.)
Miss Bustier : Alya. I’m counting on you to make sure things don’t get out of hand while we’re gone.
Alya: Okay miss.
(Marinette and Miss Bustier leave the classroom. In the hallway, Marinette looks up, furious and snarling.)
